Eczema is compared to vicharchika in ayurveda. Eczema is a common of all the inflammatory dermatoses of upper layer of skin. It itself is not a disease but is a set of skin disease with similar symptoms like small ulcers with itching sensation and discharge of water. Vicharchika is a disease caused by pitta dosha predominantly but there is involvement of vata and kapha as well. Hence this disease is considered as tridoshaj i.e. involvement of all the three doshas.
Eczema Symptoms according to doshas are:
When vata is dominant:
Rough
Blackish
Dry
Contracted
Piercing pain
When pitta is dominant:
Burning sensation
Reddish in colour
Discharge is present
Slimy in touch
Presence of peculiar smell
When kapha is prominent:
Whitishness
Cold sensation
Slimy to touch
Itching
Rotten smell
General Eczema Symptoms
Usually first Eczema Symptom is intense itching sensation over the affected area.
The rash appears later which is patchy and starts out as flaky or scaly dry skin on top of reddened, inflamed skin.
The rash itches and burns tremendously.
If it is scratched, it may ooze and become crusty, especially in young children.
In adults, the patch is likely to be brownish, scaly and thickened.
Some people develop red bump or clear fluid- filled bumps that look “bubbly” and when scratched becomes wet in over all appearance.
Painful cracks may develop over time.
The rash can be located anywhere on body but is most often found on face and on the arms and legs, particularly in creases and on hand and feet. This pattern makes sense because the face and extremities are in constant contact with external agents more than other body parts.
